An Ocean in My Soul; Directed by Dorea Slagle

Santa Monica-based scriptwriter and songwriter Charise Sowells brings us the story of Alexander, a biracial young man torn between two worlds that span space and time. As an employee of his plantation-owning father and a son to his enslaved mother, he must navigate the complicated existence of interracial overseers and the ways his unique position impacts his family. Those struggles parallel those of Alex’s second world, as a biracial teenager trying to find his place in today’s times. The context is different, but the issues remain the same--because nothing is truly black and white.

During a time of deep uncertainty for many artists, we had a desire to put some theater out into the world, and connect with other artists. With an international cast of actors from 6 different countries, this virtual staged reading of An Ocean In My Soul is as unforgettable as it is powerful!

Past Work: Directing Credit: "HiTops the Musical!"

Totally rad! In the middle of the 1980's three Angels (Lukas Baeskow, Heather N. Cate, and Gina Morgigno) are sent to earth to help struggling teenagers. As they disguise themselves as high schoolers, so does their arch nemesis, Lewy (otherwise known as Lucifer; played by Justin Tepper) to obstruct their mission any way he can. Combining the fun of "Grease", the adolescence of "High School Musical" and the performance ambition of "A Chorus Line", HiTops delivers an energetic blast to the past while dealing with some weighty matters of the heart. Oh! And did we mention the love story? Yeah, it's totally awesome.

Starring: Lucas Urbina, Lukas Baeskow, Heather Cate, Gina Morgigno, Justin Tepper, Savannah LaSalle, Kaleb Batman, and Alex Andrews

Directed by Dorea A. Slagle
